Stella - a Santa hat in patent knitting

SIZES
 1, (2, 3, 4).
Fits head measurements: 38–43, (43–49, 49–55, 55–60) cm.
Approximate age: 2 - 6 months, (6 - 18 months, 18 months - 9 years, 9 years - adult).

MESH DENSITY
26 stitches & 32 rounds = 10 cm, knitted in the round in elastic (K1, P1) with yarn C & D on the narrower needle, unstretched, after blocking.

YARN
Yarn A: Isager Tvinni , color 32S red: approx. 180, (210, 240, 270) m.
Yarn B: Isager Silk Mohair , color 32 red: approx. 180, (210, 240, 270) m.
Yarn C: Filcolana Tilia , color 100 white: approx. 25, (30, 40, 45) m.
Yarn D: Sandnes Double Sunday , color 1012 cream white: approx. 80, (90, 100, 110) m.

YARN OPTIONS
Yarn A: wool or wool blend with approx. 500m/100g, for example Sandnes Sunday, Isager Alpaca 2.
Yarn B and C: silkmohair or similar yarn with approx. 212m/25g, for example Sandnes Thin Silk Mohair, CaMaRose Midnatssol
Yarn D: wool with approx. 250m/100g, for example Isager Jensen.

Yarn A & B (patent knitting) can be replaced with a thread of wool or wool blend with approx. 250m/100g.
Yarn D (the cuff) should be soft and have good elasticity - a multi-threaded woolen yarn is recommended.

SPLINTERS
3 mm circular needle 40 cm for the elastic.
4 mm circular needle 40 cm and double pointed needles (or Magic Loop) for the patent knitting.

ACCESSORIES
 Knitting marker, darning needle, template for the ball of yarn (Ø 45 mm), sharp scissors for polishing the ball of yarn, steam and kitchen tongs for steaming the ball of yarn.


CONSTRUCTION
The hat is knitted in the round, top to bottom. The first part is knitted in patent, with two threads held together (yarn A & B).
The cuff is knitted in elastic, folded down and sewn on the inside. The outside of the cuff is knitted with two threads (yarn C & D), the inside of the cuff is knitted with yarn D. The ball of yarn is made of yarn D.
