SIZES
1, (2, 3), 4, [5, 6].
Foot circumference: approx. 18.1, (19.4, 20.6), 22, [23.2, 24.6] cm.
Sock circumference: approx. 15.1, (16.2, 17.2), 18.3, [19.4, 20.5] cm.
MESH DENSITY
40 stitches & 40 rounds = 10 cm, knitted in rib (3 rows, 1 purl), unstretched, after blocking.
YARN
Sock yarn with approx. 400m/100g. The yarn consumption depends on the selected size and the desired length. We recommend Rauma's 2-thread Gammelserie , it is slightly fewer meters per skein because the yarn is quite dense and therefore weighs a little more but suits the knitting strength.
Size 1–2, foot length 21–24 cm: 200 m.
Size 3–5, foot length 23–26 cm: 400 m.
Size 6, foot length 25–28 cm: 500 m.
KNITTING POINTS & CROCHET
2.25 mm double pointed needles or Magic Loop.
Crochet hook approx. 2.5 mm for the provisional arrangement.
ACCESSORIES
Markers, stitch holder, darning needle, leftover yarn in the same thickness but contrasting color.
CONSTRUCTION
The socks are knitted in the round, from the cuff down, with a modified ice heel. The modified heel creates a wedge, which provides a better fit around the arch of the foot. It also gives the opportunity to try the sock in the meantime.
The sock starts with a cuff in 1x1 elastic, the shaft is then knitted in 3x1 elastic. Some of the stitches are placed on a stitch holder and new stitches for the sole are laid up with a provisional lay-up. The wedge is created by decreases on both sides of the sock, the foot is then knitted straight down to the toes. After the decreases for the toes, the last stitches are sewn together with a purl stitch.
The stitches that have been waiting on the stitch holder and the stitches from the temporary lay-up then create the heel, which is worked around with decreases. Here, too, the last stitches are sewn together with the help of a purl stitch.
TO CHOOSE SIZE
Measure the circumference of the foot at its widest point, just above the toes. If you're between sizes, choose the smaller size for a tighter sock (recommended for adults), or the larger size for more room (recommended if you're knitting a child's socks). The circumference of the finished sock will be approx. 3–4 cm narrower than the foot. Note that differences in mesh density will affect the sock measurements. Double check your stitch density and adjust the gauge of the needle if necessary. The length of the sock is adjusted according to your measurements.
