Marianne Isager writes in the foreword to the book:
"I received two fine Japanese wood carvings from my uncle Niels as a confirmation gift. Since then I have been interested in Japanese art, and with the arrival of Japanese fashion designers in the West, I gained extra focus on what was going on in this fascinating country. In 2001, I met my husband Nels, who at the time was working and living in Tokyo. This led to 15 years of commuting between Japan and Denmark and many wonderful experiences.
My knitting is always inspired by what happens around me, both in everyday life and on trips. Therefore, living in Japan for longer periods became a huge source of inspiration. This book tells the story of my life in Japan and some of the inspiration I got on the trip."

This present awoke my interest in Japanese art and later, when Japanese fashion designers entered the Western fashion world, my curiosity for this fascinating country grew. My knitting is always inspired by the things going on around me, experiences from daily life and from travels. My long stays in Japan became an important source of inspiration. This book is about my life in Japan and what inspired me on this journey.”
